The close surrounding of Palace of Culture and Science and Emilii Plater Street may diametrically change soon. Feasible development plans for this area are currently being discussed by the councilors from the Warsaw urban planning committee. The skyscrapers from 160 to 240 meters high will determinate radical interference in the strict city center urban fabric. This initiative bothers the Warsaw urbanists, as far as the harmony between high-rises and historic low tenant houses on Poznańska, Nowogrodzka and Plater Street is considered.
The causes of this controversies are 170 meters Roma Tower, which profits will enrich the developer and Warsaw Curia’s budget, three skyscrapers in close surrounding of PKiN – to 245 meters high, the Griffin House construction in the former location of Emilia Pavilon and Port Varsovia complex on the area formerly belonged to Hoffmanowa High School.
